American Middle Eastern policy has become a lot like the chef who slow-cooked his wife. No one has any idea what precipitated the differences of opinion or why it was necessary to torture the victim in order to keep her quiet. Yet we continue to use disgusting drone strikes to assassinate Muslim leaders, and have made torture an instrument of foreign policy. We would gain much more respect in the world by leaving smaller nations alone.
